Whenever
a thing is done for the first time, it releases a little demon.
~ Dave Sim ~
Despite the recommendations of developmental psychologists, when
I was five my father took me and sat me down in front of a game
he was working on. While I don't think he intended this to have
the profound impact upon my life that it did, I like to think he
meant to show me that games are more than just a source of entertainment:
they are a technically skilled art and a genuinely new way of interacting
with other people. Later, this would be reinforced by watching other
children pass around the calculator games, Wolfenstein levels, Escape
Velocity ships, and Warcraft arenas that I had worked so hard to
design and implement (many of those old projects are still available
in the files section of AOL).
My studies of filmmaking techniques, psychology, physics, programming,
and sociology have all been focused on understanding this evolving
and emerging medium. Please download the resume to the right for
more information.
